MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX

Why Montgomery ISD Makes the Grade for Two Step Farm Families
The school bells are about to start ringing, and here at Two Step Farm, we’re more than ready. Not just because we love a fresh notebook and a new pair of boots (though we do), but because our kids are currently zoned to some of the best dang schools in the state. Keenan Elementary, Oak Hills Junior High and Lake Creek High School are all part of Montgomery ISD: a district that’s been doing this education thing right for a century. (Literally — Montgomery ISD turned 100 in 2025.)
From science fairs to football games, this district has built a reputation for big-time academics, small-town spirit and the kind of community involvement that just feels … right. Here’s a closer look at what Two Step Farm families can expect.
Keenan Elementary: building bright futures
At Keenan Elementary, the focus is on growing young minds with curiosity, creativity and a whole lot of heart. They’re big on STEM learning, with hands-on science projects, coding basics and Makerspace-style tinkering that lets kids explore how things work. They also know the power of a good book, with reading challenges, Battle of the Books and family literacy nights to make reading fun.
Keenan ranks in the top 10% of Texas elementary schools for reading and math proficiency, with scores that blow the state averages out of the water. And with a low student-teacher ratio and strong Gifted & Talented support, kids get the attention they need to thrive. Add in family events and Rodeo Day celebrations, and you’ve got a school that knows how to make learning fun, Texas style.
Oak Hills Junior High: growing leaders
Middle school can be a wild ride, but Oak Hills Junior High makes it a good one. They offer advanced academics, robotics and tech electives that let students dive deep into their interests. The fine arts program is strong too, with band, choir, theater and visual arts all getting their moment in the spotlight.
Oak Hills also scores high marks for student progress and achievement, with experienced teachers who know how to support kids as they level up. It’s a school with spirit, pride and just the right amount of friendly competition. Think pep rallies, spirit weeks and student performances that bring the whole community out to cheer.
Lake Creek High School: excellence in action
Lake Creek High School is the kind of high school where tradition meets ambition. With award-winning programs in everything from engineering to theater to AP academics, this is where kids take what they’ve learned and run with it. They offer dual-credit and AP courses, plus a standout STEM track through Project Lead The Way.
But let’s talk sports for a second. Lake Creek’s softball team? Legendary. Back-to-back state titles and a shot at another this year. And when Friday night lights come on, the whole town turns up. Football games, homecoming parades, mum decorating contests — it’s Texas high school magic at its finest.
Lake Creek also shines in leadership, with a student council that earns top honors for community service, school projects and making the school a place kids actually want to be.
Texas traditions that make the school year more fun
If you’re new to the area, you’ll want to get familiar with a few key traditions:
- Friday night lights (grab your lawn chair and your spirit wear)
- Rodeo days (yes, your kid will wear boots to school)
- Homecoming mums (it’s a thing, and it’s glorious)
These aren’t just school events, they’re community rituals that bring everyone together and give kids something to look forward to year after year.
Where learning hits home
At Two Step Farm, we believe in strong roots, good neighbors and giving families the tools to grow. And being zoned to Montgomery ISD? That checks every box. With excellent academics, passionate teachers and traditions that run deep, this is a district that sets kids up to succeed (in school and in life). So as we break in new backpacks and dust off those lunchboxes, we’re proud to say: the kids at Two Step Farm will be in good hands.
We can’t wait for you to come see it all for yourself — our community’s first model homes will be opening in late August, 2025. In the meantime, get to know our homebuilders.
