A school day, the Two Step way

7:41 a.m. — Backpack on, lunch packed, teeth brushed (mostly). Mom drives slow past the Goat Barn so I can wave good morning to my favorite goat. 8:15 a.m.  — Another day starts at Keenan Elementary. Math, friends, recess, lunch, library, art, snack time. And a few hallway bets about who’s going to ride Trigger the penny horse the most this weekend. (I bet 5 Tootsie Rolls on myself.)

 

4:02 p.m. — Back at home. Well, kind of. Dad has a few things to finish on his laptop so today homework is happening at The Co-Op. I read, he works, we share a flatbread pizza from The Grazery. That is, until I see a friend on the playground outside. Good thing I’m a fast reader. I wave Dad goodbye and head for the monkey bars.

 

5:12 p.m. — It’s almost dinner time, so my friend and I take the trail home. There must be a concert tonight at the dance hall, and the music follows us all the way home. Our new favorite game? Making up words to the songs as we go.

 

8:51 p.m. — I’ve gotta say, bedtime is much better in my new room: big bed, plenty of space for my stuff, no more sharing a bathroom with my sister. Lights out, teeth brushed (mostly), ready to do it all again tomorrow.
